Richard was born in the United Kingdom although began his film-making career in 1986 in Southern Africa. After completing film school he Directed several 16mm documentaries and promo's independently in association with the SABC (South African Broadcasting Company).
He
commenced working on 35mm features in 1987 and worked consecutively on many large
budget feature films and major television series, often as First Assistant Director
& Second Unit Director. Richard returned to the UK in the 90's to start his own
production company, Briton Productions Ltd, and Directed and Produced a number
of projects.
Richard wrote the first draft of a sci-fi project entitled The Galactican based on his own original idea. Gary Kurtz, Producer of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back has agreed to Produce and Irvin Kershner, Director of 'Empire' has agreed to Direct. The franchise consists of a television series, with global syndication and merchandising on a world-wide basis. Richard will Direct three of the episodes of the initial series.
Richard
is currently forming a media group, Briton Ventures Ltd, which will be
an umbrella company for the following media related businesses; Briton Development
Ltd, is a $4m fund for the sole purpose of co-developing projects with prominent
film-makers within the UK & world-wide. Briton Effects Ltd, an effects
house specialising in lower budget & corporate projects. Briton Promo's Ltd,
specialising in television, corporate programming, music promo's, adverts. Briton
Media Ltd will focus on web-site design & internet distribution.
Briton
Properties Ltd, is involved in a $5m building project entitled CiTi-VieW in
Melbourne, Australia & developing an Island in the Maldives.
Richard also started a charity in 1996 called HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere) that is dedicated to underprivileged children and other worthy causes around the world.
